Frequently asked questions

Certified translation, apostille, legalization, powers of attorney, turnaround and pricing: answers to the questions we are asked most often.

General questions

What are your prices?

Our prices vary with the document, language, destination country, administrative or consular fees and turnaround time. That's why we prepare a free, tailored quote for every request, usually within 24 hours.

Do you work with individuals and businesses?

Yes: individuals, students, the diaspora, law firms, notaries, companies, NGOs and international institutions.

How do I send you my documents?

Attach a legible scan or photo to the quote form, or email us at info@abc-offices.com. If originals are needed, we arrange their transport.

Certified translation

Will the embassy accept my certified translation?

Before we start, we check the requirements of the receiving authority (embassy, university, IRCC, USCIS, prefecture…) and choose the right translator and format. Just tell us the destination country and organisation.

How long does it take?

For a standard document (birth certificate, diploma), allow 24 to 72 business hours. An express service is available. Exact turnaround times are stated in your quote.

Can I send a scanned copy?

Yes. A legible scan is enough for most translations. Some authorities require the translation to be bound to the original or to a certified true copy; we will tell you in the quote.

How much does a certified translation cost?

Pricing depends on the language pair, the number of pages, the destination country and the turnaround time. Send us your document through the form and you will receive a free, no-obligation quote, usually within 24 hours.

Apostille

Can an Ivorian document be apostilled?

No. As long as Côte d'Ivoire is not a party to the Convention, its authorities do not issue apostilles. Ivorian documents go through legalization instead: see our Consular & embassy legalization page.

Does an apostille expire?

The apostille itself has no expiry date, but the receiving authority may require a recent document (for example a birth certificate issued within the last 3 or 6 months).

How do I know whether my destination country accepts apostilles?

Tell us the issuing and destination countries: we check the official HCCH list and confirm the exact procedure.

Consular & embassy legalization

What is the difference between legalization and an apostille?

Both authenticate a public document. An apostille is a single formality valid between member states of the Hague Convention; legalization is longer and usually goes through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then the embassy of the destination country. Côte d'Ivoire currently uses legalization.

How long does legalization take?

From a few days to several weeks depending on the document, ministry and embassy. We give you a realistic estimate in the quote and keep you informed at each step.

Do I need to come in person?

No. You can hand your documents to us in Abidjan or send them by courier from anywhere in Côte d'Ivoire or abroad.

Notary services: certified true copies & power of attorney

Is a power of attorney signed in Côte d'Ivoire valid abroad?

Yes, provided it is executed in the correct form and then legalized (and translated if necessary) for the destination country. We check these requirements before signature.

Can you draft the power of attorney?

We can prepare a draft from a template required by your notary or foreign bank, or translate it. For complex deeds, the legal content is validated by a notary or a lawyer.

How many certified copies should I get?

It depends on the receiving organisations. We usually recommend one per application plus a spare.

Document retrieval

I'm not in Côte d'Ivoire. How does it work?

Send us the details of the document through the form (name, date and place of birth, municipality, record number if you have it). We will tell you what we need, for example a power of attorney or a copy of your ID.

How long does it take to get a birth certificate?

It depends on the registry office and the age of the record. We give you an estimate in the quote and keep you updated.

Can you translate and legalize the document you retrieve?

Yes, that's our speciality: retrieval, certified translation, legalization and delivery in a single file.

Interpreting

How far in advance should I book an interpreter?

Ideally one to two weeks before a meeting, longer for a simultaneous conference. We also handle urgent requests subject to availability.

Do you work outside Abidjan?

Yes, everywhere in Côte d'Ivoire (Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, San-Pédro, Korhogo…) and in the wider region. Travel costs are included in the quote.

How is the price calculated?

By interpreting type, language pair, duration (half day or full day), location and any equipment. Describe your event in the form to receive a quote.
